Out-Takes: The Original 4020 Brochure

In the course of our promotion of the 4020 overhauled by Chip Foose, I got to spend some time digging around in the John Deere online archives. I was hoping to find some original ads and brochures that we could post online for people to see.

The good news is that I found them. After a quick look through, though, it turned out most of it couldn't be posted because it wasn't up to today's safety standards. We're a little obsessive about safety at Deere.

Most notable exceptions is that there is no ROPS. The brochure would have been printed in 1963, while ROPS didn't become common until 1967. There's also no seat belt, either.

This is the spread that really made posting impossible. There's no way Deere would promote standing while driving any more.

I also got a kick out of this page that promotes the 88 hp 4020, because the Nebraska Test for the 1963 4020 rated it at 91. It's a very classic John Deere move to downplay power, just to be sure.

The fine print: These are my own opinions and views and may not represent or reflect the opinions or views of John Deere.

Please be safe.
